Rooted in a Life of Service
The Aguil De’Chut Deng Memorial Foundation was created to honour a woman whose life was shaped by courage, advocacy and service.
Aguil De’Chut Deng’s journey moved across South Sudan and Australia, through conflict, women’s organising, peace advocacy and community care. She stood with people who were being overlooked and pushed for women to be included where decisions were being made.
This Foundation carries that standard forward through education, community support, cultural connection and opportunities for the next generation.
Our Foundation
We are a South Sudanese-led foundation working across Australia and South Sudan.
Our role is not only to remember Aguil’s life, but to continue the values that shaped it in practical ways. That means building work that supports people, strengthens families and creates pathways for young people, especially girls, to learn, lead and stay connected to who they are.
The Foundation is being built around three connected areas:
Education
Creating pathways through scholarships, learning support and future education initiatives.
Community Navigation
Helping families understand and access systems, services and opportunities.
Cultural Connection
Creating spaces where memory, identity and intergenerational knowledge can continue.
Our Purpose
Aguil’s life was not defined by titles. It was defined by what she did. She organised. She advocated. She stood with women. She supported young people. She carried community responsibility across borders and across different stages of life. Our purpose is to turn that example into something lasting. We want this Foundation to help build a future where: girls have stronger access to education families are better supported culture and story remain connected across generations young people can see leadership as something they belong in This is how memory becomes responsibility.
